When Havila Holding is embarking on new territory, they most often choose territory at sea.
The experience they have gained from fisheries, offshore activities and boats lay the foundations for a future in maritime transport, supported by the Group’s close links westward bound. Havila has strong ties with the people and opportunities on the Faeroe Islands. Via the company Skansabrekka, the Group gained shareholdings in Smyril Line, a company providing passenger and vehicle transport between Iceland, the Faeroe Islands and Denmark on-board MS Norrøna, while Smyril Line Cargo has several cargo vessels.
Their next investment in sea transport was Fjord1. The Havila Group was able to acquire all the shares in the company and listed Fjord1 on the Stock Exchange in 2017. Havila Holding intends to remain a long-term owner and has retained control with 51 percent of the shares in Fjord1.
The shareholdings in Fjord1 and ferry traffic for daily transport and occupational transport also opened the door to other types of travel and tourism. With shareholdings in Fjord1, Havila Holding also gained ownership of Fjord Tours, The Fjords and WF Holding.
Fjord Tours AS is a company offering round trips in Norway by train, boat and bus. The company is particularly well-known for its “Norway in a Nutshell” trip. Tickets for this trip are flexible, so passengers can stop off on the way and enjoy a few extra days in the destination of their choice.
The Fjords aims to enhance the experience of the fjords for the many visitors to Fjord Norway. The company is specially known for its electric ship “Visions of the Fjords”, a passenger catamaran with innovative design that takes tourists on eco-friendly fjord cruises.
WF Holding is the holding company for airline Widerøe. Widerøe operates regional and local flights with short takeoff and landing aircraft in West Norway and North Norway, in addition to several international flights. Widerøe provides an essential transport service, linking towns and cities and allowing people to create livelihoods and live where they want to.
With ferries and flights, cargo and passenger transport, Havila Holding was ready to expand with the new flagship for tourism and transport; Havila Kystruten, which plans to traffic the coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes with four ships from January 2021.
Havila Holding has once again embarked on new maritime territory.
